016 Your Body Is Talking (Perimenopause, Honestly)
What's actually happening to your body right now? Somewhere in the last year or two, sleep stopped being reliable, a word vanished mid-sentence, you cried at something small, a wave of heat arrived in a perfectly normal room. And each time, you reached for the same explanation: I'm just stressed, I'm getting older. This episode offers the plainer one.
The word is perimenopause, and almost certainly nobody sat you down and explained it before it started. That gap has left countless capable women quietly wondering what's wrong with them, when nothing is. The sleeplessness, the mood shifts, the word-finding, the heat, these aren't separate pieces of evidence against your character. They're one connected, hormonal process, completely external to anything you did.
The silence around this is the real harm. Without a name, every symptom gets misfiled as a personal failing. You weren't given a map. The terrain was always going to be unfamiliar, that was never your competence at walking it.
Three things actually help: naming it plainly when it shows up, having a real, persistent conversation with a doctor about your actual options (you're allowed to ask more than once, and to ask a different doctor if the first one dismisses you), and saying it out loud to another woman, so it stops being a secret you each carry alone.
A note: this episode is naming and validation, not medical advice or a diagnosis. For anything about your own body and your options, please talk to a doctor or a practitioner who knows your history.
If today put a name to something you've been quietly blaming yourself for, listen next: Episode 002 . Tired, Not Broken.
