005 The Money Nobody Talks About

Why do successful women still feel financially trapped? You earn good money. You're capable, admired, doing really well by every visible measure. So here's the question nobody in your life will ask: if you needed to, really needed to, could you leave? Not do you want to, that's a different episode. Financially. Could you stand on your own next month?

If a cold little feeling just went through you, that's what this episode is about. Because you can earn well and still not be free. Those are two completely different things.

Here's how the money stopped being yours, and it was never one bad decision, it was a hundred reasonable ones. You pooled accounts because you're a team. Your career bent around the family in a way his somehow didn't. He handles the investments because he's into that. Every choice made sense at the time. Add them up over twenty years and you arrive somewhere you never decided to go: a good income, a comfortable family, and no real cushion that's only yours. That didn't happen because you're bad with money. The system worked exactly as designed. It just wasn't designed to leave you a floor.

So here's the reframe: money is not the opposite of dignity. Caring about your own floor isn't cold or selfish or unspiritual, it's what protects your ability to choose. And the first step isn't a number, it's a sentence you let yourself say: I'm allowed to have something that's only mine. Then one small, almost embarrassing action, one account that's yours. Not wealth. One floorboard. And standing on even one floorboard feels completely different from standing on nothing.

And I'll be straight with you: this is a thing I'm still working on myself, a couple of steps ahead on the same road, not teaching from a stage.

If today named something you've been carrying alone, listen next: Episode 009 . Stay or Go.
