004 The Voice You Stopped Trusting

When did you stop believing the part of you that just knows? You knew the answer in about ten seconds, the sofa, the job offer, whether to go on Friday. And then you spent two days not trusting that you knew: you asked your sister, the group chat, the reviews, one more person just to be sure. And you landed almost exactly where you started. So the asking was never about the answer. You had the answer. It was about not being allowed to trust it was yours.

Here's how that happens. It's never one moment, it's a thousand small ones. Early on, you had a feeling and a trusted adult said don't be dramatic, you're overreacting. At work you sensed a project was heading for trouble, said so, got told you were being negative, and then it went wrong exactly as you felt it would, but everyone had moved on. Your intuition didn't fail you. It got outvoted, over and over, until it went quiet to protect itself. Not because it stopped knowing things, because it stopped expecting you'd take its side.

There's a difference between asking for input and asking for permission. Input adds to your knowing and makes you wiser. Permission-seeking replaces it and makes you smaller. The only instrument tuned to your life is the one you stopped trusting.

You don't rebuild self-trust with one brave decision. You rebuild it the way you'd rebuild trust with anyone who let you down: small promises kept, again and again. So this week, pick something tiny, notice your first fast answer, and just this once, don't override it. Take your own side.
