001 Is This It?
When your perfect life feels empty, the question shows up when nothing's wrong. Not in a crisis, on an ordinary Tuesday, loading the dishwasher, sitting in the car in the driveway a minute longer than you need to. A small, quiet thought: is this it? You push it away, because you have a good life, a really good life. But the thought doesn't care how good your life is. It comes back anyway.
Right behind it comes a sharper, meaner one: what is wrong with me? That's the wrong question, and as long as you're asking it, you'll keep looking for the problem in exactly the wrong place.
Here's what it actually feels like: not sadness, a flatness. Watching your own life through a window. Standing in your own kitchen, everyone taken care of, and realizing you don't know if you want tea or water, because years of putting your own wanting last don't erase it in a day, they let it fade. And the more capable you are, the easier it is to hide. The competence becomes the camouflage.
The blueprint has a flaw, and it isn't in you. You were handed a picture of a good life built entirely from things you can see, the title, the partner, the home, and nobody asked the only question that matters: what does it feel like to live inside them? "Is this it" isn't ingratitude, and it isn't weakness. The women who ask it aren't the ungrateful ones. They're the awake ones. It isn't proof something's broken. It's proof you're paying attention.
